A farm house antique can contain exist undetected. Sometimes, the rarest and most unique of items can exist right under the nose of the owner; and the owner is completely unaware of it. This can happen when an individual purchases an old farm house that is filled with belongings and maybe even a farm house antique from a previous resident. Consider the following story:

In Pennsylvania, the new owner of a farm house discovered two trunks in the barn. One trunk contained several musty and weird costumes and masks. But the most bizarre content of the trunk was a mounted and stuffed RAT! Bizarre to say the least. Luckily, this weird discovery did not deter the farm house owners from opening the second trunk which contained an old book entitled “Vampyre.” In the margins of the book were numerous handwritten notes. Upon further inspection, it was discovered “Vampyre” was an early manuscript version of “Dracula” and the handwritten notes were Bram Stoker’s.

The trunks were related to promotion material to a potential Dracula stage play. Needless to say, the rare manuscript find went for quite a few dollars!

A farm house can hold a great deal of history – and maybe even the odd farm house antique. Some farm houses can date their initial construction back to the 1800’s. As such, many of the basements, crawlspaces and attics can hold a farm house antique.

The range of farm house antique types that a farm house can hold include such rare (and expensive items) as dressers, tables, chairs, and sewing wheels that can date back a century or more. It is always best to have older furniture and items given at least a cursory appraisal so as to pinpoint at least a semi-accurate assessment of their worth.
